On Thursday 30th November, members of the 7th Eastleigh Cub Pack visited Nightingale Pets in Eastleigh for an animal carer session.

The young members chose this activity session themselves, as part of our #YouthShaped programme.

The session was enjoyable and interesting for all participants that were involved.

It was more of a unique opportunity compared to other places that offer animal carer sessions, as they mainly focus on reptiles; but they do have a few cute and cuddly pets as well for those who are not too keen on reptiles.

The pets that were involved in the session included a Boa Constrictor, a Chameleon, an Anole, a Scorpion, Rats, Canaries, Budgies, and they also had the opportunity to see Python Feeding.

It was also a special evening, as three of our newest members got invested into the cub pack as part of one of the most unique investiture ceremonies I’ve done, which included the sound of birds chirping and a dog barking in the background, which was quite distracting.

If anyone is interested in participating in this alternative animal carer session with their section, then you will be able find out more information on their website: http://www.nightingalepets.co.uk/; which has an enquiry page for you to contact them directly.

Anyone for a Macmillan Coffee??
08/10/2017 By David Patrick

Last Friday the 13th Eastleigh hosted a Macmillan coffee evening alongside our AGM.  A huge thank you to all those who supported this very successful event from the cake bakers to the cake eaters and buyers! In total we raised just over £180 for a great cause.

To put the donations into perspective, £25 pays for a Macmillan nurse to support a family affected by cancer for one hour, £61 pays for 4 hours for a Macmillan benefits adviser to help someone struggling with the costs of cancer, £278 could keep a Macmillan information and support centre stocked for a month with all the resources it needs to support people affected by cancer and £370 could pay for the hire of a room for a year so a self-help and support group could hold regular meetings.

Once again, thank you to all who baked, attended and supported 13th Eastleigh’s Macmillan Coffee Morning to help us raise money for people living with cancer.
