Eastleigh Explorers Summer Camp 2011

Yes I know we haven’t even had Summer Camp 2010 yet but preparations for next years camp have already started. Hopefully many of you were there when I showed the unit the pictures of the last Haarlem Jamborette that happened in 2007.

Next year I hope to take a contingent of Eastleigh Explorers with the Gloucestershire Scouts to Holland .

The application and information is shown below. Places at the camp must be prebooked and Gloucestershire have obtained 75 places for young people.

These will go reasonably quickly so even though the closing date is October expect places to be issued on a first come first served basis – Get your applications in quickly before you go on Summer Holiday would be my recommendation

Explorer Summer Party

Eastleigh Steamers Network are running a summer party for all Explorers in Eastleigh and Chanders Ford Districts. The evening will include; BBQ, Waterslide, Bouncies, Music and Games. Its being held at 14th Scout Hut, Eastleigh on Monday 19th July from 19:30 – 21:30.

Explorer Practice Hike and Scout Expedition challenge

Eastleigh Explorers are hosting a weekend camp. During this camp there is a chance for a bit of walking perhaps in preparation for the D of E expeditions or just for a bit of fun. Groups of scouts are invited to come and do their Expedition challenge. All you need is yourself, kit and a leader. Details below.

Where? Braggers Wood New Forest

When? 19:30 Friday 2nd July to 15:00 Sunday 4th July

How Much? £28 per head (£55 for a pair of siblings). Cheques payable to “Eastleigh Explorers“

Why? A chance to do a practise hike before the assessed expedition. Even if you already have achieved your Bronze D of E you can still come along and offer support to the younger less experience members. There will also be scouts doing the Chief Scout Gold expedition.

What to bring? A rucksack to carry your equipment and share of the communal equipment in. Guidance on what you need is available from your unit leaders. Communal equipment is cooking equipment, tents and food. Food will be provided, however everyone needs to bring a packed lunch for Saturday and some “emergency rations”.

Suisse Adventure

On the 25^th July 2009, 300 scouts from Hampshire journeyed to Kandersteg International Scout Centre (KISC) in Switzerland for a two week, action packed adventure. Amongst the contingent were explorers, network members and leaders from Eastleigh.

Everybody had the chance to do numerous activities including; hiking, white water rafting, paragliding, glacier walking, canyonning, river rafting, day trips, sky-diving, high ropes and much more!!!

The campsite had scouts from all over the world visiting, meaning plenty of opportunities to meet other scouts from all different cultures. Whether sitting around the campfire with all nationalities, playing a card game with a group of network scouts from Iceland or a friendly (but still competitive) game of volleyball, we certainly made friends.

An amazing fortnight was had by all and good memories to keep for a life time.

Explorer Camp 2010

Eastleigh District Explorer Scouts have been invited to join Gloucestershire County for their Summer Camp next year. Gloucestershire have a well established county camp that started over 20 years ago, GlosCamp is held every four years at Park Farm in Crickhowell, South Wales in the heart of the Brecon Beacons National Park . It is a week’s camp for young people in Scouting aged between 10 and18. Although the camp is targeted and troops and units from the Gloucestershire County we wont be the only outside continguent as next year there is liely to be a group from Denmark.
