Konnichi-wa Eastleigh District!!
The celebrations continue!!!!!!
As part of the 21st World Scout Jamboree held at Hylands Park, Chelmsford at the beginning of August, 30,000 Scouts from around the world (and 10,000 helpers), came together for 10 days of camping and activities to celebrate 100 years of Scouting and renew their promise and make new friendships that will last a lifetime.
But did you ever think what happens after the camp is over? Where do these Scouts go? Well, 2 families in Bishopstoke have the answer! They offered their homes to 4 of the 70 strong Japanese Scout contingent that were being hosted by Hampshire Scouts as part of the Home Hospitality, (better known as Ho Ho), as a fitting end to the Jamboree.
Mr David McGregor, (GSL), and Mike Harris, (Treasurer), both from the 12th Eastleigh/1st Bishopstoke Scout Group, hosted the Japanese Scouts for 2 days before returning home. A evening BBQ, a visit to HMS Victory, Fort Nelson, the local Scout shop and Romsey Rapids swimming pool, were all planned to ensure that both English and Japanese Scouts came together in friendship and understanding.
Eastleigh District Scouts, presented the 4 Scouts a UK Centenary Scarf and a set of badges as part of their welcome to Eastleigh, whilst Mr David McGregor presented them with Scarves and badges from the local 12th Eastleigh/Bishopstoke Scout Group. The Japanese Scouts in return, presented souvenirs and presented a 21st World Jamboree “T” shirt that were worn by the Japanese Scout contingent at the Jamboree. The “T” Shirt is inscribed with the slogan, “We will make friends all over the World!” and will take pride of place at the 12th Scout Group headquarters..
Mr David McGregor, commented, that it was a great experience in this 100 year of Scouting and an opportunity he didn’t want to miss and hopes that both families of Bishopstoke have made friendships that will last and is in keeping with the official Scout Association slogan in this 100th year anniversary……………….
