Going Round and Round
How many of you have spotted the new sign that has gone up in Eastleigh? Next time you approach the junction of Twyford Road/Woodside Avenue/Allbrook Hill, take a look at the roundabout, and you will see for yourself.
Margaret Patrick, Eastleigh District’s Commissioner, told us that “As part of an effort to get ourselves noticed in the community, Eastleigh District has purchased sponsorship of this roundabout for the next 12 months. We have chosen now to do this, as we are approaching a really exciting time within Scouting.

2007 is our Centenary year, and we wanted to share it with as many people as possible.
Whether you have left the organisation, and want to get back involved, or have never joined and would like to find out more, we want to hear from you”
For those who are already members, how many of your friends and work colleagues know about Scouting?
You can spread the message by mentioning Scouting whenever you can. You could perhaps talk about all the famous people that have been Scouts (including Richard Branson, Nelson Mandela, Tony Blair, Steve Fossett). Maybe you would like to mention that we are one of the largest voluntary youth organisations in the UK - with nearly half a million people taking part in some form of adventurous actitivy every week.
Here are some more amazing facts about Scouts:
- Of the 12 people to have walked on the moon 11 were Scouts.
- Scouts aged 6-25 clocked up 2,000,000 nights away last year.
- Each year, 10,000 of our Scouts travel to more than 150 countries to take part in community projects.
- In 2003, Explorer Scout Rhys Jones, as part of an all Scout team, was the youngest person ever to climb Mount McKinley, the world’s coldest mountain.
- In 2006, Rhys Jones conquered Everest - one of the youngest people ever to do so - and he is from Hampshire!
- We help 120,000 Beaver Scouts each year spend their first night away from home.
If you want more information about Scouting, either in Eastleigh, or further afield, then please get in touch. You can find all of our contact details on our Contacts Page. We are particularly interested in hearing from anyone who used to be members of Eastleigh District, so that we can let you know about the exciting things planned for our Centenary Celebrations.
