Cooking up a Centenary Challenge!
Eastleigh District kicked off the Scouting Centenary with a special meal for invited guests and friends. Among the invited guests was the Deputy Mayor of Eastleigh, Roger Smith and his wife Sheila, Reverend Richard Davis from All Saints Church, the District Commissioner and other invited guests of Eastleigh Scout Association.
Guests were served a special 4 course meal by 6 teams of Scouts as part of their Annual Cooking Competition. Being a special year, the competition was given a slightly different feel by having the team prepare, cook and serve the meal, before sitting down to join them.
Brian O’Neill – ADC (Scouts) said “This is a great opportunity for the youth of Eastleigh, and in particular these Scouts, to demonstrate their skills. In this special year for Scouting, we wanted to deliver a real challenge to the Scouts, and in return, they have accepted it, and delivered on their word. I am proud of what they have achieved.”
Scouting offers challenge and adventure to 400,000 young people and 100,000 adults across the UK. We believe in helping our Members fulfil their potential by working in teams, learning by doing and thinking for themselves. We give people of every background the chance to stretch themselves, learn new skills and make life long friends.
In August 1907 Robert Baden-Powell, a decorated soldier, held an experimental camp on Brownsea Island, Poole, Dorset for 20 boys. His new Scouting Movement, based on outdoor adventure and the values enshrined in the Law and Promise was an immediate success. Now, as the Movement celebrates its centenary, 28 million young people and adults worldwide take part in the adventure of Scouting.
We are always open for people to come and get involved with Scouting. New members, or people who have lost touch, and want to rejoin the Fun and Adventure, can contact David Patrick, ADC (Communications) on (023) 8069 5309, or email webmaster for more information.
