This year’s Taylor Memorial Trophy started earlier this month, when Brian launched the first two activities for troops to complete.
Task 1 : “About Us” : 2nd April – 31st May
Over the next few months we as a District intend to build up a friendship with two Scout Troops in another country. One Troop is in Uganda and the other is in India. To get the ball rolling we need to let these Troops know a bit about our Scout District and Troops within. We are inviting each Troop to submit a report (with photo etc.) of no more than 10 pages, about your Troop and where you live. Copies of these can be sent to the Scouts in Uganda and India
Task 2 : “Camp in an unusual place” : 2nd April – 15th July
Your Troop is asked to camp in an unusual place, (a place not normally used by people to camp in). The camp must be of at least one night’s duration and the Scouts must sleep in a canvas tent at their chosen location. The Troop entry must be at least a team/patrol of Scouts of at least five/six.
Normal POR Nights Away rules will apply. The District Commissioner in most cases will require the NAMs form at least 14 days before the event. Patrols can use Event Passports if desired and correctly used.
This task could be used as a Troop’s inter Patrol competition (if so only one entry, into competition, per Troop) or could be used as an event planned and run (with full guidance from Nights Away Adviser) for validation for a Nights Away Permit, for a less experienced leader.
The ADC Scouts must be invited to see the event, and if he can not attend, may send someone to represent him, so warning of the event must be passed to him in advance, as soon as details have been made. However ~ it may prove impossible for him to visit every event, if a lot of teams go out on location.
For judging, as well as above, a copy of all paper work, including emails, photos, and a copy of comments from the site owner/keeper about the conduct of the Scouts will be needed.
Watch the website for reports on these events as they start to take place. Any Scout who wants to write a short report on their activity and send it to this website will pass section 3.e of their Public Relations badge. Submit your articles by emailing them to webmaster
