Keeping up with District News

Two ways in which you can get the news from around Eastleigh District delivered straight to your computer.

New Articles

The website address can be opened in most modern web browsers and will give you a list of the last 5 items to appear on the District Website. Your browser should update automatically everytime you open it.

For those people with a Google account, you can use the Google Reader application to read the articles. Simply copy the address above into your Google Reader and it will go and retrieve the articles for you.

Eastleigh District Calendar

This service reads the entries that appear in the District Calendar down the right-hand side of this website, and let them appear in your own calendars. This allows you to check for events and see if they clash with other things.

For people with iCal software (or iCal compatible software) - paste this link into your software as a new calendar. Then when a new item is put into this District  Calendar, it will appear in your Calendar.

For those of you who use a Google account, you can also add this calendar into your own Google Calendar.

Why use these tools?

The first link allows you to keep track of things that appear on the District website without actually remembering to visit the site each time you log on to a computer.

The second link (District Calendar) can be used to see what other things are going on in the District that you might be interested in.

Other techniques to keep you informed of events and opportunities will appear throughout the year, but I wanted to bring these two to you now, as they are stable and reliable sources of information.

The catch….

As with most things, there is a catch to all this. New items will only appear on these links when they get created. There must be lots and lots of exciting things going on in the District, and we want to share them with everyone else. So if you are doing something unusual, special or just a regular meeting night that went really well, we want to hear about it.

If you have an event coming up that you want people to come to, send it in, and we can put it on the calendar.

Remember, if you get your young people to put the articles together, they have completed part of their Communicator badge (for the Cubs) or the Public Relations badge (for the Scouts)

note: if you have a Gmail account, then you will already have a Google account, and access to both the Reader and the Calendar functions.
