Thirty Cubs from Eastleigh took part in the Sixers and Seconders Camp at Cricket Camp, Manor Farm from 12th – 14th September.
Friday evening was spent setting up the camp followed by two energetic Wide Games, which must have worked as most were asleep by 10.30pm!
Saturday dawned dry and sunny – was this to be our summer? We started the day with a Sixers Council, trying to find out just what the Cubs thought about Scouting and what they would like to do in the future. The majority like wearing the uniform, enjoyed playing games, camping, doing badges, particularly the Outdoor, First Aid and Hobbies. Some would like an Activity day, a Cooking Competition and to go Go-karting.
We then began our activity bases – abseiling, cooking, tent pitching, cooking/fire lighting and camp gadget making. These lasted all day and was followed by everyone planning a hike. The evening was rounded off with a camp fire where we were joined by a Titchfield Group who were also camping. With all this happening the Cubs also had to play a major part in the preparation and cooking of the meals.
Sunday was another dry, sunny day and the teams set off to lay trails for their hike. When this was completed, they swapped routes and followed someone else’s trail. The camp ended with an excellent Scouts Own, led by Margaret Howell, our District Badge Secretary.
