Skip’s Memorial Fund

The 1st Fair Oak Scout group have set-up a Memorial Fund for Eric Balch – Skip.

Skip’s Scouting career began as a Cub in 1922, and continued through Scouts, Rover Scouts, Leadership and Group Scout Leadership. Skip eventually became President of the group until 2005.

Many young people and villagers knew Skip, he taught them cycling, canoeing and climbing. He also taught them a happy way of Life! He gave much of his time to the group and the village.

The group hopes to raise enough money to buy a village Clock in his memory.

The 1st Fair Oak’s Scout HQ in Botley Road will be open on Sunday 4th December from 2pm for anyone to come and view some of the 16mm films and slides of past camps and canal & river canoe cruises. Some of his old log books and other memorabilia will also be on display.

Anyone who knew Skip, and wishes to donate to this fund should make their donations to “1st Fair Oak Scout Memorial Fund”. Any enquiries can be made to Jill Robertson on (203) 8069 3053.
