“A Musical Showcase” proves a success!
The concert, a combined evening of music with Thornden Community Band, was the first chance for many young members of the band to show off their musical skills, and raised £540 for BBC Children in Need.
The event kicked off with a demonstration of the musical skills on the march with a vigourous rendition of MC Hammer’s You Can’t Touch This, a traditional tune, Swing March, followed, with the final tune being one of the signature pieces of the Band, “Highland Cathederal”.
The second section moved to the band putting their concert perfomance skills through their paces with a wide range of music from across the years.
On into the second half, and Thornden Community Band’s turn. The Community Band featured many of the adult players from The Spitfires, and was a great demonstartion of a different style of music with some longer pieces being played.
The Finale brought the show to a climactic end with both bands combining to perform “Lord of the Dance” from the Riverdance stageshow.
