** Press Release – for issue **

As part of their Centenary Celebrations, Eastleigh Scouts are holding an Awareness Day in Wells Place, Eastleigh to let the people of Eastleigh find out more about modern Scouting. Starting at 9:30 on Saturday 18th July, Eastleigh Scouts will be manning a Climbing Wall, presenting displays and talking to the public to show what a modern Scout Movement can really achieve.

Started in 1909, Eastleigh Scouting has developed in the last one hundred years into an organisation that provides a regular weekly activity for nearly 500 young people between the ages of 6 and 25.

Modern Scouting faces many challenges, but the greatest at the moment is to recruit Adults into the Movement. The newly appointed Chief Scout, Bear Grylls, is keen to see more adults join the Scout Association. Despite Adult recruitments growing at it’s fastest rate for more than 20 years, there is still a national waiting list of over 30,000 young people.

Eastleigh District currently has just over 100 adult volunteers who provide a wide and varied programme. They are always looking for new Adult members to join, so that they are able to expand their busy programme of activities, and, most importantly, welcome more young people into the organisation.
