All, can I say a big THANK YOU to all the Network and Explorers who turned up yesterday and made the event a success – beyond what we anticipated!
We had over 40 enquiries for Beavers, Cubs, Scout and Explorers, mainly for Eastleigh, but also for Southampton, Winchester, Chandler’s Ford and Itchen South.
But most of all was that we had at least FIVE adults volunteer to be leaders in our District – the one that I remember most was when the band was playing, a lady came up and said hello and she introduced herself as a Music Teacher and could she help with the band? – eerrrrrrrr – YES, YES, YES!
What came across, (as I always suspected), was that young people want to join Scouting but don’t know how to find us – despite all that we do to promote ourselves, it is all our jobs to look at ways at reaching out to the young people of Eastleigh and tell them what a great District we are and the fun we have whilst Scouting.
The event also proved that our Explorers and Network are beginning to be recognised by the District and the event would not have been such a success if they had not helped all the children (and adults) to recognise that with a little effort we can all reach our goals
We also raised £131.54 for Scout Holiday Homes
Can the GSL’s please pass on my thanks to all the helpers who came along and gave their support
Thank you again – just brilliant
David McGregor,
District Commissioner.
