The Countdown starts here…
There are just 12 months to go until the start of a year of activities to celebrate the first 100 years of the Scout Association, and Eastleigh District want you to Join the Adventure. The District is keen to hear from anyone who has been a member of the District, but has lost contact with either the District or the Scout Association.
It was on Brownsea Island in Poole Harbour, Dorset, that Lord Baden-Powell brought together a group of 20 young boys for an experimental week of activities. Now, nearly 100 years later, the Movement has expanded to bring adventurous activities to 28 million members in 216 countries around the world.
As well as a whole series of National and International events, culminating in the World Jamboree in Essex, there will be a wide range of events closer to home, and Eastleigh District wants to invite you to be part of these.
Eastleigh District formed in 1909 and covered the towns and villages of Eastleigh, Chandlers Ford, Bishopstoke and Fair Oak. The early district was made up of 14 groups. Scouting grew within the area, and finally the decision was taken in 1984 to split Eastleigh and Chandlers Ford into their own District areas, which is where we are today.
If you were a member of any of the groups within the Eastleigh and Chandlers Ford area, and want to get involved with Scouting again, or just want to see if you can get in touch with old Scouting friends, then the Eastleigh and Chandlers Ford Districts would love to hear from you.
