The ‘Outlaws’ head out West…

8 Explorers and 2 Leaders spent a fantastic week touring Cornwall.

We left Eastleigh early Saturday morning for a 200 mile drive to Nine Ashes Campsite in Bodmin, stopping off in Somerset for lunch. We arrived at the site around  2 pm and set up camp for the week.  After we investigated the site we prepared the evening meal and relaxed for the rest of the evening.

Sunday, all up at 6 am (unheard of for Explorers) ready for a day of sightseeing around the north coast. We first visited Tintagel where we took some amazing pictures of us rock climbing and caving. After lunch we travelled to Padstow a fishing village, to do some souvenir shopping. Back to camp for an evening meal and joined another explorer group’s campfire.

Monday, up again early! Today surfing at Newquay!!! Even though the weather was not great we managed to get some great waves and all had a fantastic time and want to go again. After surfing we went back to camp for an evening meal and a wide game.

Tuesday, had a bit of a lay in (up at 7) today we are off to the Eden Project.  Don’t rely on Gary’s satnav as it can let you down. After going down some rather tiny lanes we eventually got there! We were all fascinated by the bio domes. We spent the day here. Then went back to camp for a meal and to socialize.

Wednesday/Thursday- Chief Scout Expedition, not at all keen because of the awful weather. But after a few miles we started to enjoy the hike despite the rain. The second day of hiking took in part of the camel trail. If we thought the first day was wet you then you should have seen the second. After completing the hike we were all glad to put our feet up.

Friday we went boat fishing off Mevagissey harbour! We caught all kinds of fish including mackerel.  Cant believe how much we enjoyed this must do it again some time. Back to the campsite to clean up. Then out for a Chinese meal – fantastic! Back to camp for a party with the other explorer groups.

Saturday - Oh No! Going home - we slowly packed away and said goodbye to new friends, then started our 6-hour trip home.

Thanks Tony for an action packed camp, can we do it again please?!
